About Maestro Guitar

Maestro Guitar was founded by George Pjevach: musician, teacher and author. George has been playing guitar and performing professionally for over 40 years. He has been teaching for over 27 years, providing his students a comprehensive combination of guitar lessons, musical theory classes and vocal coaching.

The Maestro Method curriculum is based around all of the extensive knowledge that George attained through his years of artistry, combined with real world experience in the entertainment, performance and teaching industries.

George has over 27 years of experience as a guitar, music and vocal teacher. Many of his students have gone on to become musical directors and professional guitarists. Others have chosen to continue their vocation while enjoying guitar as a high-level musician or song writer.

Unlocking the Magic

As a young beginner, George learned through “trial and error.” Although he was working under the guidance of instructors, he found that not all of the information provided by these teachers was actually helpful. In fact, some of it actually set him back and caused more confusion than understanding.

As a beginner, it was difficult to tell the difference between good and bad information, resulting in wasted time and financial investment. In the beginning, George spent a majority of his time taking guitar lessons at music stores – picking up a new lic, song, scale or chord from friends for years.

Years later, after finally discovering the right instructor, it became necessary to “unlearn” all of the incorrect information and break the bad habits attained through poor education in order to progress.

Persistence Pays Off

George began self-learning the guitar in 1972. His love for the guitar developed through the learning of chords and strumming patterns, which combined transformed into his favorite songs. Within four years, George was performing publicly at local bars and restaurants.

By 1984, George had become a proficient lead and rhythm guitarist. He had created a five piece show band called “Steppin’ Out,” and had attained a greyhound bus that his band used to travel. Steppin’ Out toured the United States full-time, and although on stage George sounded like a pro to his audience, he still needed to memorize all of his parts in order to effectively perform the band’s songs.

Little did he realize, there was a better way: by gaining a thorough comprehension of how music works, he would no longer have to memorize all of his chords, and he could learn new songs far more quickly than he ever had before.

Meeting Joe Lano - and truly understanding the guitar

In 2000, George moved to Las Vegas performing with the Steve Beyer Orchestra, and as a hired gun for shows.

He played at every hotel and casino on the strip which is where he met Joe Lano. Joe performed with Lena Horn, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Jack Jones and Mel Torme to name a few. Joe is an internationally acclaimed writer and arranger.

Joe agreed to give George a guitar lesson. It lasted 4 hours and took 1 year to learn, digest and master. It was through Joe that he finally learned the magic of music as applied to the guitar –  to methodically learn- on the guitar- scales, chords and arpeggios, in all keys and in all positions. He learned how modes work and why they work.

This 40-year search for knowledge led George to the true understanding of music. Once you learn the material and practice you will be a true guitarist and musician.

You will hear a song and play it, hear a genre and understand what creates its sound, play almost any style of music effectively, learn songs from sheet music, create original music, sit in with bands, jam with musicians and confidently carry your part and audition for shows with confidence.
